Kerala Installs G-Gaiter Robotic Gait Trainer at Noolpuzha FHC

G-Gaiter

Wayanad: Kerala has taken a pioneering step in healthcare innovation by introducing G-Gaiter, a robotic-assisted gait training system, at the Noolpuzha Family Health Center (FHC) in Wayanad.

With this installation, Kerala becomes the first Indian state to integrate G-Gaiter robotic rehabilitation technology at the primary healthcare level. The initiative was inaugurated by the Minister for Health, Veena George.

G-Gaiter Enhances Inclusive Rehabilitation in Wayanad

Speaking at the launch, Health Minister Veena George stated, “We are proud to unveil the advanced version, designed for both adult and pediatric rehabilitation. During my interaction with a patient from Tamil Nadu, I witnessed the joy of regaining the ability to walk – a truly inspiring moment that reflects the power of such technological innovations.”

The G-Gaiter installation is part of the Chief Minister’s Wayanad Special Rehabilitation Package. Located in a predominantly tribal region, the Noolpuzha FHC now serves as a model for inclusive and accessible rehabilitation. The facility is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for patients who previously had limited access to specialized therapy.

Dr Dahar Mohammed V P, Medical Officer at Noolpuzha FHC, commented, “Our center is located in a backward region, where around 50% of the residents belong to tribal communities. We are proud to bring state-of-the-art robotic rehabilitation, including G-Gaiter, to this population.”

A Breakthrough in Indian Robotic Rehabilitation

Developed by Genrobotics Innovations, a Kerala-based technology startup, G-Gaiter exemplifies India’s growing capabilities in healthcare robotics. The system supports both adults and children recovering from gait-related disabilities, including stroke, spinal cord injury, and cerebral palsy.

By simulating natural walking patterns and providing robotic assistance, G-Gaiter improves gait balance, coordination, and overall functional recovery.

Proven Success in Clinical Rehabilitation

The robotic system has already demonstrated its clinical efficacy at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) department of Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital.

Dr Arun John, PMR Consultant, stated, “In a prospective crossover study involving 36 stroke patients, we observed significant improvement in gait and balance. So far, more than 80 patients have benefited from G-Gaiter rehabilitation therapy.”

Kerala Leads India’s Robotic Healthcare Transformation

With the integration of G-Gaiter at the primary healthcare level, Kerala reinforces its commitment to equitable, technology-driven healthcare. The move not only empowers local communities but also positions the state as a national leader in robotic rehabilitation initiatives.
